Smoky Mountains (With An Appearance From Smoky Himself)

Since the Smoky Mountains are located relatively close to Knoxville, a group organized a trip to go hiking. I of course went along, and as it turned out was the photographer for the trip.
In the car as we entered the park, I mentioned that I really hoped to get to see a bear. Nobody else seemed to share my desire in fact they were pretty sure they did not want to see a bear. So as we continued driving, all of a sudden most of the traffic was pulled to the side of the road. Since there was a crowd standing with cameras in hand and since we really had no other choice, we also pulled over. Well before we even had a chance to get out of the car, Jen spotted it...

...a bear!!

Imagine my excitement! Not only a bear, but two bears just hanging out in the trees having a snack. They were really far away, and even with my zoom lens I had a hard time getting really clear pictures. But I was just happy to see a bear, and it just so happens so was everyone else in the car!

Well after such an amazing start to our trip we headed to the trail.

Our group starting the hike (with Hagrid as our guide!?!)

I love it that it looks like Jen is either about to fall or do some gymnastics!

The reward for hiking this trail is a climb up to a bit of a summit at the end.

Everyone made it this far.

But only five of us made it all the way to the top. In the others defense, it was really windy and you had to climb some rather precarious looking rocks.

The view was definitely worth it!

Always the kidder!

Okay the climb and descent was a bit scary.

The hiking crew (minus me taking the photo and Hagrid who was off to the side peeing!)
