So just like what happened when Beauty and the Beast played Chicago, I was laid off because of the Musician's Union in San Francisco. Also like Chicago, I went to the first performance to judge the person who had stolen my job. Unlike Chicago though that person did a better job. There were still way too many mistakes across the board from all of the local players (do they even look at the advance books?), but overall the quality of playing was better. That having been said, what I heard that night at the Golden Gate Theatre was not as good as what I hear nightly in orchestra pits everywhere else in the country. Oh well!
