I did not really know what to expect when I went to the La Brea Tar Pits, but I wasn't expecting a normal looking park. Aside from the horrible smell of petroleum and the black sticky puddles, it looked like any other city park.
It was pretty cool to watch the tar bubble up.
In a couple of places throughout the park, there are old and current excavation sites. One of them is set up with a viewing area for the general public.
They set it up in a way that you can look into the pit and see different colored flags next to different types of bones and then look at a map to see what type of animal the bones belong to.
If only they were real!
(The birds were real)
Walking through the La Brea Tar Pits is really interesting, but just make sure you have some Advil if you do. That smell gave me such a headache!!
