Owensboro In The Daylight

Owensboro was far from being my favorite city on Wizard of Oz. In a way that is unfair as we only played one performance and our hotel was actually in Evansville. So I really did not get to experience the city much. On Beauty and the Beast, we did actually have a hotel in Owensboro, and I took advantage of that to go exploring with my new camera.

I had read somewhere about the world's largest sassafras tree so imagine my excitement when I just happened upon it as I walked to the theatre!

There was a surprising amount of public art in Owensboro including this buffalo.

This little theatre looked interesting although it is not where Beauty and the Beast played!

These reindeer were actually out on display the last time I was at the River Center.

Although it is not on my list of places that I would like to return to visit, Owensboro is not so bad especially when you are actually staying there!

Before and After

Owensboro was the first city that I returned to with my new camera. Here are the results:

Paducah, KY

Under normal circumstances, a city like Paducah would not stick out in my mind as exceptional. What made Paducah exceptional is that I finally upgraded my camera to a Nikon DSLR. I was thinking ahead in the schedule, and there were some venues coming up that I really wanted to take better pictures at. Hopefully you notice the difference.

-
Paducah is located where the Tennessee River and Ohio River meet. Like so many river towns they have painted murals on the levee walls.
-

Paducah has a cute downtown area with some great old buildings.

And the remains of some great old buildings.

-
Abandoned old theatres make me sad.
-

This would have been a great quasi-old picture if it weren't for the stupid SUV!

And here is the reason that the Columbia Theatre is unused.

The Four Rivers Center is actually a beautiful new facility, and it was the perfect place to test out my new camera.

This shot alone was worth the cost of the new camera for me. I would never have been able to get the color and clarity with my old camera!

Indiana My Indiana

So at this point anyone who is still reading my blog knows that I went to school at Indiana University and love returning whenever possible. This is my second return playing a show at the IU Auditorium, but this is my first time staying at the IU Memorial Union hotel.

It was a bit surreal staying at the Union since I spent a fair amount of time there as a student. On the other hand, the Union is the ideal location because it is so close to the Auditorium yet is stumbling distance from Kirkwood!

In my four years at IU, I only set foot in the Art Museum once, and that was to play a concert. So I was determined to visit the museum and actually see the art.

I was a bit surprised to find a piece by one of my favorite artists, Jean Dubuffet.
