Jackson, MS

Following our visit to the South Carolina state capital we headed to the capital of Mississippi, Jackson. We were originally supposed to travel directly to Jackson, but we ended up taking a detour. Thankfully we did not have a show that night. Jackson had just had a spell of cold weather that ended up bursting water main pipes across the city. Since our hotel did not have water, we had to stop in Meridian, Mississippi for the night.

Once we finally made it to Jackson, I decided that I was not going to miss the chance to see another state capital so I took the early bus to the theatre.

Aside from the capital, Downtown Jackson had some other great architecture.

While I was watching TV in Meridian, I saw a commercial for what turned out be my highlight on Jackson: The Jim Henson Exhibit at the Mississippi Museum of Art!
The exhibit was very interesting. It covered his entire career from the TV commercials to The Muppets and Sesame Street to his movies like The Dark Crystal and also some of his more experimental projects. The exhibit was rather small, but it did have some cool recreations of various Muppets like Kermit and Rowlf. They obviously did not allow photography otherwise you would now be looking at a million pictures of Muppets!

At first there was some question as to whether we would have to cancel the show because of the water situation. The theatre's solution was to rent port a potties!
