Boston For The Afternoon

Super Bowl Sunday occurred during our time in Providence. It was the Sunday before we opened, and originally we were supposed to have the day off. Well apparently a couple of hours of extra rehearsal was necessary so we lost our day off. My original plan for the day off was to take the train up to Boston and see the tour of Dreamgirls. Dreamgirls is a show that I have always enjoyed, and I know three people on that tour. Dreamgirls ended the following week, and because of our performance schedule with Beauty and the Beast, I wasn't able to make the trip to Boston before it closed. To help rub salt in the wound, we ended up leaving Providence on the Tuesday after Beauty closed so we had a free day in which I could have seen Dreamgirls had it not been a Monday and had the tour not closed.

I decided to visit Boston anyway. It seemed such a shame to be that close and not make the trip.

Another old Orpheum Theatre

There it was mocking me!

Since I couldn't see a show, I took more pictures of the theatres in Boston.

The Wang Theatre got a new marquee since the last time I was there.

Faneuil Hall (Still didn't have time to actually go inside)

This was my real reason for visiting. I had decided to eat at wagamama when I was going to see Dreamgirls. Well they can take Dreamgirls away from me, but I'll be damned if they take away my wagamama!

The End Of The Road (The Yellow Brick One That Is)

After our first weekend in Detroit, my time on the Yellow Brick Road came to an end. I played the first performance on Friday night, and sat out for both shows on Saturday and Sunday. Since I had to be at the theatre whether I played or not, I ended up sitting in the pit next to the drummer for one performance and watched from the audience for another. It was fun to actually watch the show, but once was enough. After that I just sat outside the pit and quietly fingered through the music for Beauty and the Beast.

On my last night, my dream of being a Jitterbug partly came true. After that what else was there to do, but move on to Beauty and the Beast!

Put Your Hands Up For Detroit

Detroit is not one of my favorite cities to visit, but over the years I have seen a couple of shows there. In fact both of them were at The Fisher Theatre where we played with The Wizard of Oz so I was excited to return and experience the theatre as a performer.

The Fisher is a bit of an odd theatre in that it is inside of a large office building. Now there are many theatre that are a part of other buildings, but to get to the Fisher you actually have to wind your way around the Fisher Building to get to the theatre.

This entrance to the theatre seems to be the official entrance, but it is on the other side of the building from where the parking is. In fact I did not discover it until I was wandering around taking pictures.

Apparently at some point the theatre was completely redecorated. Above is a display of some decorations from the old version of the Fisher. As you can tell below, the current version is a bit different.
